Yes, BCA is a very practical and accessible IT degree in Nepal. It is a 3-year program offering solid foundations in web development, databases, and application development. While less mathematically rigorous than BSc CSIT, BCA graduates who build strong portfolios and practical skills are highly employable in Nepal's IT sector — especially in web development, IT support, and digital agencies.
BCA (3 years) is the shortest and most application-focused, ideal for students who want to enter IT faster with a focus on web development and business IT. BSc CSIT (4 years, TU) is the most technically rigorous with strong CS theory and mathematics. BIT (4 years, Pokhara University) is applied and industry-aligned with more project exposure. If you want a faster entry into web or digital work, BCA is excellent; for deeper technical roles, CSIT or BIT may serve you better long-term.
Start with C in Semester 1 to build your programming fundamentals, then move to Java for OOP in Semester 2–3. From Semester 3 onwards, focus heavily on HTML, CSS, JavaScript for web development — this is where BCA students have the most career opportunity. Add PHP or Python in Semester 4–5. Python is also recommended for automation, data analysis, and future-proofing your career.
Since BCA is only 3 years, start preparing from Semester 3 — build at least one web project, create your GitHub profile, and set up LinkedIn. Begin actively applying for internships by Semester 4. Many Kathmandu IT agencies and web companies hire BCA interns who can show basic HTML/CSS/JS or PHP skills and a live project. Don't wait until Semester 6 to start.
